I’ve recently been talking to a number of bloggers who are having a hard time understanding the types of products that they can promote through affiliate marketing. Many of them associate affiliate marketing with either ebooks or diet pills. I decided to try a little experiment and see how many products I used in one day that I could easily blog about and include affiliate links. Some of these products I would just mention in passing in a blog post. Others could be an entire written or video review. I actually got tired of writing them down there were so many. Here’s are some of the highlights. [Read more…]
Affiliate Summit Indianapolis Meetup 09-28-11
The September Affiliate Summit Indianapolis Meetup was held at Claddagh Irish Pub and was a terrific success! This was a restart of the group from a few months ago after I got some feedback that people were interested in trying it again.
Erika Crabtree and Haley Drummond from One Click Ventures were our speakers and came armed with great information as well as led us in some Q&A about their business, affiliate marketing, and SEO. Some of their brands you might recognize include Affordable Scarves and Handbag Heaven (affiliate program available on Shareasale). Here were some of the highlights of their presentation:
My Affiliate Marketing Introduction for Newbies
I was recently fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to speak at the Business Strategy and Technology Forum in Indianapolis. It’s a great group of professionals in our community who come together for educational and networking purposes. I had 15 minutes to give my background, explain affiliate marketing, and relate to the audience how they could use affiliate marketing and related concepts like SEO and social media. A daunting task! It was followed by a Q&A period with the audience where I really got to connect with them and share.
How To Be a Good Affiliate
I have written and spoken several times about what affiliates want from affiliate managers and merchants but have never flipped the coin over to see what is on the other side. Thinking about the topic and talking to others, here are some suggestions about how we can all be better affiliates.
Be honest about volume: If you make promises that you know you cannot keep, you will not only burn a bridge but word will eventually get around. Be optimistic in your projections but not unrealistic.
Affiliate Summit East Raves and Regrets
Another Affiliate Summit has come and gone, and I have finally had time to reflect on it and draw some conclusions about my experiences. Not surprisingly, I have a lot to say!
Rave: I loved having the opportunity to see New York with some of my favorite affiliate marketing friends. Whether it was Madame Tussauds with Kim Salvino or Times Square with Ashleigh Ball, I loved every minute of the atmosphere. Being in New York itself is a great conversation starter.
Regret: I wish that I had more time to hang out at Old Castle and eat Street Meat. I’ve come to associate those with Affiliate Summit but there just wasn’t time this year.
Raves: I was fortunate enough to participate in two different panels. It seems silly but I love preparing for Summit panels because I have to stretch myself to learn new things and learn even more about things I think I already know. I also love the opportunity to share what I know with others. Todd Farmer and Kristen Grace were nice enough to indulge me in some silliness in our Seasonality in Affiliate Marketing panel. I also got to meet Adhustler, whom I had never met before, for my How to Pitch Your Company panel.
